First Responders Hockey Tournament
8 Teams of First Responders getting together for some friendly competition – October 13‐14, 2018 Eagle Pool & Ice Rink – Eagle, CO
The Hockey Enables Reaching Out Classic was started to raise money and community awareness for mental health and suicide prevention in our area; with a focus on the Emergency Responders who answer these calls on a daily basis and the effects it can have on their mental wellbeing.
Colorado lost 1156 people to suicide in 2016 as compared to 230 homicides. Between 2004 and 2014 there were 196 suicide deaths among first responders in Colorado. This includes professions of corrections officer, dispatcher, EMS, fire, police and security. More than 56% of these deaths were related to circumstances of current depressed mood.
45.6% of these deaths were also veterans of the armed services. Research shows that men aged 25‐64 in Colorado have the highest rate of suicide.
